Constantine

Meet Constantine, who was in terrible shape on arrival, as you can see from her pictures. We don’t know how she got this way, but this sweet young cat was infested with fleas to the point that most of her hair is gone, and where there was white hair remaining, it was rust colored from the blood. She was also quite anemic. On top of this, she had fly eggs on her back, which we thankfully caught and removed before they hatched. The last thing she needed was a maggot infestation too. 🙁 She wasn’t even 6 lbs on arrival.

Fast forward a few days and she is still losing weight despite being wormed and rid of fleas, and she has started bleeding all over. It ends up our poor girl was also pregnant, and just could not support the developing kittens. They had died inside her, and she was too weak even to miscarry them. Now infection was setting in. We brought her to our wonderful vet Diane, of Fairfax Vet, who managed to get those kittens moving. Over the next two days she manage to pass all three. Add to this the antibiotics she had been prescribed, and at last, she started to gain weight. Within a few days the bleeding stopped too.

Fast forward again to Friday, July 6. She has gained over a pound and has the energy to want to explore. She is just the sweetest cat, who adores whatever attention she gets. We look forwards to watching her become the beautiful tortie we know she is.
