Meet Gracie, the friendly and rambunctious young dog looking for an active home to call her own.
She is known to get along with everyone she’s met so far. She likes children and is friendly with them, though at almost 80 lbs and being full of energy, Gracie can be a little overwhelming for small children. She is friendly with cats and with other dogs. She is the type of dog that gets along well with pretty much anyone.
Gracie is very smart and energetic and loves anything active that you are willing to do with her; walks, or playing with toys, or whatever you may come up with to engage her body and mind. She really needs someone who is willing to give her plenty of exercise. Without it, she gets bored and a bit stir crazy. (Though what active person doesn’t who has to sit indoors too long?)
She also needs someone who is willing to train her, who can come up with ways to exercise her mind as well as her body. “Clever Girl” aptly describes Gracie. She is very smart and interactive, and would adore learning new things.
She enjoys car rides. She knows “sit”, and mostly doesn’t jump up on people. As she is young, it would be good to reinforce her training with consistency.
For walking, she is not a relaxed walker; she enjoys a good brisk pace. She pulls a little on her leash, but isn’t too bad about it, especially considering her size. If you keep up a decent pace, she will match your pace rather than keep pulling. She could use more work on leash manners, but compared to many young dogs without much training, she is really not too bad. She does best in a martingale collar, as she knows how to back out of a regular collar.
As a whole, she is a very nice and enjoyable dog who has been a pleasure to take care of. Plus, she will do most things you ask for a treat, as long as she understands what you are asking.
Gracie was surrendered as a Bernese Mountain Dog/sharpei cross.
Gracie is about 2 years old and spayed. (Born early 2017.) Weight: 76 lbs.
She is also up to date on her rabies and DHTTP vaccine. She has been wormed and treated with a topical flea/tick preventative (K9 Advantix.)
If you are interested in adopting Gracie, please call the shelter at 507-644-3853, or else stop in and meet her during open hours, no appointment necessary. M-F 2-6 and Sat 10-Noon. Even if you aren’t looking to walk, she would love it if visitors would come play with her and take her on walks.
