***Both Adopted!***Velvet and Satin

Velvet was brought in with her sister Satin, who is absolutely her doppleganger. The two are both longhaired and pure black, without a white spot anywhere. We estimate them to have been born around July 10, 2018. Both are very sweet and friendly, but Velvet is the more outgoing and opinionated of the two. She is beautiful and she knows it, and very much believes she should be treated like a princess. Satin is the gentler and quieter of the two. She is quite laid back about life in general.

As a part of her adoption fee, she will be spayed and up to date on her shots. She has also been wormed, including preventative for coccidia and giardia, had a fecal float performed to check for internal parasite, been given a routine antifungal bath, and treated topically with a flea/ear mite preventative (Revolution.) She has tested feline leukemia negative.

If you are interested in adopting, please call the shelter at 507-644-3853, or else stop in during open hours, no appointment necessary, M-F 3-7 and Sat 11-1. Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, feel free to stop in anytime during open hours to play with the critters; they love it!

Born appx. July 10, 2018.

Victoria

Now that her one and only daughter Una has gone to her new home, Tori (Victoria) is ready to find a home herself. This sweet as sugar young longhaired kitty is probably less than a year old. She is very social and outgoing; she loves attention. She would have her silky soft fur stroked all day if you were willing. She also loves to play; she is such a character! Though not overly rambunctious about it like many male kitties. She just has her shorter “teenage” coat right now; kitties with a coat like hers tend to become regular marshmallows of fluff around the time their adult coats come in at the age of 2 years old. She is gorgeous now; she will be stunning in not too long!

Come meet her. You’ll have trouble leaving her behind!

Appx. birthday: Aug. 10, 2018.

Yelp was so named for how vocal he was on arrival, crying for the food he had apparently been lacking on the streets. He was quite skinny and wormy on arrival! He has filled out nicely now, and is quite quiet and content. He is so friendly! He loves to play. He is such a social little creature!

As a part of his adoption fee, he will be neutered when old enough and up to date on his shots. He has also been wormed, including preventative for coccidia and giardia, had a fecal float performed to check for internal parasite, been given a routine antifungal bath, and treated topically with a flea/ear mite preventative (Revolution.) Rags, short for “Ragamuffin” due to how scrawny and wormy he was on arrival, has filled out splendidly and is now ready for a new home. This handsome blue and white tuxedo cat is also really sweet and purry. A very nice kitten! Come meet him and you will see.

Chloe needs a new home! Chloe is a 2 year old sable colored husky/chow mix. She weighs in at 59 pounds. She is very active and very intelligent. She is super friendly and loves attention! She is quite clever about figuring out ways to escape, so she is going to need a home with someone who is willing to give her the attention and training she needs to be content and want to stay home. She also needs a home where she can get plenty of exercise.

Edit: We got some updated information that her father was a purebred husky and her mother was chow mix, and that her birthday is Nov. 11, 2014.

Chloe has been spayed and is up to date on her vaccinations as a part of her adoption fee. She has also been treated topically with a flea/tick/mite preventative and has been wormed. She will be available to go home after her spay on Thursday, Oct. 4.

If you are interested in adopting, please call the shelter at 507-644-3853, or else stop in during open hours, M-F 3-7 and Sat. 11-1. Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, feel free to stop in during open hours and walk her or play with her; she’d love the attention!

Update Nov. 2, 2018:

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Chloe is still looking for a home! This girl is just about to see her fourth birthday (coming up on the 11th!) and what she’d really love for her present is a home all her own.

Chloe is a husky/chow cross. She has a very sweet demeanor; she is quite easygoing about meeting new people, other dogs, or cats. She has yet to meet a dog, cat, or person she doesn’t like. With a new dog she’s just like “Oh, hey, I don’t know you yet. Hello! Okay, we are friends now.”

Chloe is highly intelligent and highly active. She needs a lot of mental and physical stimulation. She really loved going to Ramsey Park and smelling around! She also loves toys, especially ones she is allowed to destroy. Sorry, toy squeaky duck; Chloe thought you were more amusing in several dozen pieces.

Chloe is a bit of an escape artist, so any new family will need to take that into consideration.

We have started working on her leash manners. She very much wants to go when you get outside, and will pull to encourage a quicker pace. I have started to teach her that as soon as she starts plowing ahead, she must stop. We don’t make any forward ground until she has settled on a reasonable pace. She learned pretty quickly that if she wanted to keep moving forward, she needed to not tug so much! That being said, as the saying goes, practice makes perfect. She needs a lot more practice before I would consider the lesson truly learned.

She has also been learning to sit to ask for things she wants. For example, she must sit before I let her jump out of the car, or sit before she can go out the door. She not only gets what she wants for sitting (going through the door, etc.), she also gets a treat to sweeten the deal.

I will continue to work with her until she finds a family all her own.

The Hay Kittens: Timothy, Meadow, Brome, Orchard, Clover, Bermuda, Barley, and Alfalfa. ***Adopted! Brome, Bermuda, Barley, Meadow and Timothy***

Someone bought a load of hay that came with eight little surprises… three week old kittens! They look to be from two different litters. As the mothers were feral (according to the seller of the hay), and their nest had been taken away, and their kittens gone for several days, the odds were poor of them taking their kittens back again. So for the kittens’ safety they ended up at the shelter. They are currently being bottle fed.

Feel free to stop by the shelter and watch some kitten tv! They are residing in Rm. 1, which is the room with the big windows for easy viewing. Come by and watch them anytime the shelter is open! We would like them to be a little older before they can be played with, though. Watch for updates!

The kittens were born around Sept. 1, 2018. They will be ready for homes one about Oct. 27, 2018.

Update Oct. 12, 2018: We are now taking applications for the kittens! If you are interested in adopting, please call the shelter at 507-644-3853, or else stop in during open hours, no appointment necessary: 3-7 M-F and Sat 11-1.

Update Oct. 27, 2018. They are old enough to have visitors now! So stop on in and meet them. The shelter is open M-F 3-7 and Sat 11-1. Feel free to call with adoption inquiries at 507-644-3853. Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, feel free to stop in during open hours, no appointment necessary, and play with the critters while they wait for forever homes.

All the kittens have been wormed, including preventatives for coccidia and giardia, treated with a topical flea/ear mite preventative (Revolution), given and antifungal bath, had a negative fecal float to test for internal parasites, and have tested negative for feline leukemia. They will have their age appropriate shots as part of the adoption fee, and the eventual spay/neuter when old enough. (You will need to bring them back when old enough to the vet we partner with, Riverside in Redwood Falls.)

Autumn

Autumn needs a home! This sweet and playful kitten is ready for a family to call her own. Her antics are adorable! (I think you get the idea even just looking at her goofing off for her photos.) She was born appx. July 20, 2018.

She has already received her first shot, has been wormed, treated with ant-giardia and anti-coccidia medications as preventatives, treated topically with a flea/ear mite preventative (Revolution), and has had an antifungal bath, all as a part of her adoption fee. She has been tested negative for feline leukemia. The eventual spay/neuter is also included in the adoption fee, but the kitten will need to be brought back to the vet we use when old enough.

If you are interested in adopting a kitten, please call the shelter at 507-644-3853, or else stop in during open hours, M-F 3-7 and Sat 11-1. Even if you aren’t looking to adopt, feel free to stop in and play with the kittens during open hours, no appointment necessary.

Fluffy ***Hold until Healthy***

Fluffy was surrendered to the shelter in really rough shape. He had received some sort of blow that dislocated one of his knees and caused some nerve damage to his back legs. The vet has put the knee back in, but the nerve damage may or may not get any better. He walks well enough to get around and use the litterbox, but cannot jump onto things, and can’t reach his hindquarters to groom himself. As such, he had a ton of mats to cut out upon arrival, and will need continued frequent grooming to keep it from happening again. On top of all this, he arrived emaciated. Despite his injuries, once he warms up to you and realizes you won’t hurt him, he is a very sweet and expressive cat who loves belly rubs and to be with people. Stay tuned for updates as he heals!

Fluffy on arrival, taken Sept. 18, 2018.
